Introduce yourself and what you believe differentiates you from other candidates.
I am running for Select Board because I have a vision to build a better Lexington for everyone, a future that is: sustainable, affordable and resilient. I want to leverage, encourage, support and amplify the work of other residents like me who believe passionately that we must do more and more quickly to attain that future.
Bringing residents and experts together to solve problems is one of my strengths. As a trained engineer who worked for many years in software and management in the telecommunications industry. I bring strong analytical, practical and data-driven skills to the work I do every day. I have experience building trust and gaining buy-in with others who might have different priorities.
I’m proud of my work at the forefront of Lexington’s recent sustainability successes, which includes positively influencing new state policy. I’ve advocated for the health of our residents by co-founding the Clean Heat Alliance and led campaigns that resulted in multiple positive bylaw changes. Because of this work, Lexington’s future now includes not only lower greenhouse gas emissions from our buildings, but also lower operational costs.
I’ve been a leader of the campaign to divert food waste at all of our public schools as well as starting a pilot curbside composting program as part of my work with the Waste Reduction Task Force. I am a speaker and educator on waste reduction and electrification for other communities around the state.
Together, with my experience and resident involvement, we can:
Lead the way to a lower-cost, re-imagined high school that can save $25M in building costs by maximizing federal and state rebates and incentives.
Optimize our transportation networks so that they serve the variety of needs of our residents.
Build more connected, inclusive and vibrant places to live, work and shop.
Create healthier, more energy efficient, more affordable housing for everyone with cost savings.
Lexington’s sustainable future must include all residents.
My volunteer work has extended beyond town government to mentoring young girls, helping low-income residents lower their utility bills and assisting seniors with managing their finances and taxes. My time spent working with these most vulnerable in our community has made me aware that there are people falling through the cracks right here in Lexington. On the Select Board, I would prioritize filling those gaps.
I truly want to help as many people as I can. Every day I think about the challenging future facing our kids and grandkids, but know from experience that working together, we can honor our rich history, lower our bills, and help lift each other up while also addressing climate change – and attain the sustainable, affordable and resilient Lexington we all desire.
I am eager to work with residents from every corner of Lexington to continue to improve a town we are all proud to call home. I am thrilled to be a candidate for Select Board.
